Our client was summonsed for speeding (97mph on the M1) whilst rushing to get his wife and mother-in-law to Luton Airport for a flight they were running late for. He is a managing director and sole boss of a construction company working on a number of projects in the South East, and the ability to drive is an absolute must. Even a short ban would have been disastrous. Our client already had 6 penalty points (for two mobile phone offences), so another 6 points in accordance with the courts' sentencing guidelines indicated a likelihood of a 6 month ban. He would be completely unable to run his business without employing a full-time driver who would have to be available to work long and unsocial hours.
Ultimately, our client received 5 points and a £400 fine. He retains his licence and the ability to drive after detailed mitigation was put before the court. Jeffrey Lewis had conduct of the case and the excellent Martin Lewis of counsel was the advocate who appeared in court on behalf of the client.
