Well, for those of us who have now seen the extracts of the infamous tape of Rupert Murdoch’s meeting with the Sun journalists on bail awaiting investigation and prosecution in March 2013, it is now clear why these investigations are taking so long. Mr Murdoch openly boasted about the “hardball” approach to disclosure that the expensively paid City firms of lawyers instructed by News Corp are taking to the disclosure of information to the Metropolitan Police.
However for those individuals on bail, it isn’t such great news; it can only mean that they are waiting longer and longer for a decision. The Met have stated that this new macho approach to disclosure has been in place since May, meaning that the costs and length of these operations are increasing. Not really such a clever approach, upon analysis.
We are currently representing a large number of journalists awaiting bail decisions. If you require advice about any of the above, contact us using our online enquiry form or by telephone on 020 7387 2032.
