Unan Choudhury represented an Addison Lee driver alleged to have committed a red light offence. A traffic officer on a motorbike alleged he saw our client drive through one red light and then followed him to the next where he rode up to the client's front window and alleged he had contravened the previous set of traffic lights. The client disputed the allegation straight away and the officer asked him to pull over which he did. The officer then alleged that not only did he contravene the first set of lights, when he stopped at the subsequent set his vehicle had crossed over onto the cyclist only section and therefore he had contravened a second set of lights.
Unan prepared the case very carefully, producing pictures of the traffic lights, confirming the distance between the lights, and highlighting the amount of time the officer had to stop the client between the lights.
Martin Lewis spoke for the client at trial and following the hearing was found not guilty of both offences. The client was very happy as he risked losing his licence and therefore his job. He was also awarded defence costs.
Jeffrey Lewis represented a young man arrested on New Year's Eve on his parents' doorstep for drink-driving and failing to provide. Ultimately, police did take a breath test and he was found to be 3 times over the limit.
After full mitigation, Jeffrey Lewis managed to persuade the Court not to disqualify for 18 months, which would be the usual tariff for such a grave offence, especially as it was aggravated by the initial failure to provide. Instead, our client was disqualified for 12 months with a fine towards the lower end of the scale. He and his parents were very pleased with Jeffrey's detailed mitigation.
