The defendant was unanimously acquitted after a short trial. In addition to the sexual touching he was charged with common assault. It was alleged that he had strangled and then felt the breast of a woman he shared accommodation with. This was witnessed by her friend.
After hearing from the complainant and her friend, and from the client, the jury returned not guilty verdicts.
The client had been summonsed for offences of no insurance and driving not in accordance with her licence. She is in her sixties and has been driving for 45 years. Further to representations made to the prosecution, the driving not in accordance with a licence was withdrawn and the client pleaded guilty to driving with no insurance. She received a fine and 3 points.
This was a good result as she was a new driver in the UK and, had she been convicted for driving not in accordance, she would have had her licence revoked and had to pass her driving test again.
