On Friday 10 October 2014, after a jury trial which lasted 4 weeks, Terence Day, David Day and Billy Dillon of Greengate Recycling were found not guilty of all six charges of attempted handling of stolen cable and money laundering offences.
The solicitors for the Days were Lewis Nedas Law (one of the leading firms in the UK) who have in-depth knowledge of, and expertise, concerning the recycling industry and the law concerning these cases.
The defence advocate at trial for Terence Day was John Reilly (Barrister) and James Reilly Higher Rights Advocate of Lewis Nedas Law presented David Day's defence. His Honour Judge Stead said that the Defence had driven a coach and horses through the Prosecution's case. The Defence demonstrated to the jury that the cable which was sold to the defendants by undercover Police Officers was readily available on the open market and must not have been stolen. This follows on the acquittals of all those charged at the Rogers Recycling Yard in Newnam Courtney, Oxford.
The prosecution of cases of a similar nature continue to be pursued at great public expense.
This case has been reported in both the Times and the Daily Mail.
