Siobhain Egan represented an individual who pleaded guilty to defrauding his bank employers over 9 years in the sum of £350,000. This was a classic breach of trust case and the Sentencing Guidelines on fraud indicate a sentence of 5 years on a guilty plea. However as a result of good advice, hard work and thorough preparation, our client received a suspended sentence of imprisonment!

He was advised to make full admissions to City of London Police, to assist his employers (a high street bank) to identify the weaknesses in their systems, which he had been able to exploit, and to voluntarily repay as much of the stolen monies as possible, which meant that he sold his family home and entered a guilty plea at the preliminary hearing in the Crown Court.

His family raised the funds to instruct us privately which ensured that we were able to instruct a top level advocate (the excellent Ms Dee Connolly) and leading experts in order to prepare a full mitigation. This was nearly a year’s work, and we could not have done this on a legal aid certificate, which would not pay for the quality of advocate, experts or the time which we spent on the case.
